Your notebook stays here.
Field notes, exercise ticks and the timer state are stored in this browser’s local storage. They are not sent to us. Other people using the same browser profile may be able to see them. Export notes you want to keep; clearing site data removes them. When storage is unavailable, the site explains that changes cannot be saved.
Films are your choice.
Video previews load from YouTube’s image service. Pressing Play film connects to YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player at youtube-nocookie.com, which may process device and network information. Playback remains subject to YouTube’s privacy policy and availability. Direct creator links take you to their sites.
The group map.
Map tiles load from OpenStreetMap when you open the Groups map. The map provider receives ordinary network information needed to serve those tiles. Search runs within this page; we do not request your device location. Group links open the external sites listed in the dated directory snapshot.
Community accounts and contributions.
Reading is open to everyone. Joining stores your username, a securely hashed password and recovery-code hash in private server storage. Keep your recovery code safe: there is no email reset. An essential session cookie keeps you signed in. Security limits use a keyed hash of your network address and expire automatically.
Posts, replies, captions and your username are public. Upload only work you own or have permission to share. Images are resized and re-encoded to remove embedded metadata; their visible contents remain public. Posts appear immediately and can be reported for moderation. Contact Mark with your username and post link if you need a contribution removed; do not send your password or recovery code.
Shared YouTube previews connect to YouTube’s image service; playback connects to its privacy-enhanced player. Shared TikTok previews load TikTok’s player when in view. These services may process ordinary network and device information. Sharing buttons send only the public page link and title to the service you choose; no social widgets load in the background.
Hosting and contact.
The hosting provider may retain ordinary web server logs, including IP addresses, requested URLs and access times, for site operation and security. We do not add an analytics tracker to these pages. Contact uses Mark’s separate studio contact page; information you send there follows that site’s handling.
For a question about this publication, contact Mark through that page and identify urbansketching.uk.
